I’m growing to be a huge historical fiction m/m romance lover. The aspects of forbidden love just add that level of danger that rackets up the heat. And this story was no different.

The characters are interesting especially our lovely Collin. Poor guy’s life has been pretty rough. And just when he’s making a decent time of it, his cousin put him in a position that could be the undoing of them all.

The plotline is more than just romance. There is an added layer of mystery and intrigue of events to come.

This is a short satisfying read. Of course I wanted more. I mean really it will be cruel if there isn’t more to come.

This story was short but it was what I needed at the time. A friend recommended this one when she found it for free, yes, FREE, on Amazon. So I snatched it up. When I had a moment and I didn’t have time to read a long book, I eagerly dived into this one.

The writing was pretty solid for such a short read. Sometimes when it’s free, the stories aren’t so great but I was pleasantly surprised.

My torched character pulled on my heartstrings, I wanted to be there and stroke his hair and take away all the bad things. Lucky, this guy was tough. There was a bit of story line that leads you to wonder what will happen next.

My school teacher was what can I say without giving much away. Well, let me just say, he was what I hoped for.

Overall, I liked this one and I’m looking forward to the next.

This book may not win any literary awards, but for me it was entertaining. The storyline was hot and I enjoyed it it for what it was.

The plot was a page turning and the pace kept moving. Yes, there were a few unbelievable parts. Yes, some of the dialogue is cheesy and unbelievable. But love is cheesy sometimes. So that didn’t bother me as much.

SPOILER ******Alex quick turnaround from straight to bottom doesn’t ring true for me. But I’m a hetro girl, what do I know, lol. *******END OF SPPOILER

However, if you are looking for a quick hot read, check this one out. But it was freaking hot I tell you. My book boyfriend is Chase. Got to love him.

This story was definitely more plot driven than romance. The romance elements were there. They were just more subtle and the story of behind the romance took center stage. Being on a naval ship in that time period made me think how tough it would have been to be different than societies norms.

The complex nature of the men’s hearts and mind, what they will wait for and what they will not makes this story.

Many of us at some time in our lives love from a far. Not many ever get the pay off. It was a nice happy ending when romance can work for two people.

After reading the first in the series, I had to read this one. I was captivated by it and drawn in from page one. This is the shortest of the three I believe. These are novellas in length. But yet, you don’t feel like you’re missing any part of the story once you’re done. You simply want more because it’s that good.

Ava just has a way with this series and these characters. I could feel them through the pages like I was there. She flushes out her character very well and makes them more than one dimensional. They each have their way about them.

Okay, so I’m gushing. This was book three and I didn’t know it. But it’s the kind of series that you don’t absolutely have to read in order.

It’s hard to say which of the three books I liked the most. But there was something about this one that really got to me. The dynamics between the two could have easily been predictable, but Ava did a few things that made it different and interesting.

I have to say, I was impressed with Ava. This wasn’t a story all about sex, nor did it exclude it. There was enough steamy moments to a readers pleasure. The historical part of the story was done well. The time period captures. What was required of a ‘gentleman’ of that era and how those who choose to go against society’s standards went about it.

Great Job Ava, I look forward to more book by you in the future.

How much did I enjoy this book, let me count the ways. I’m not much of a historical fiction reader despite the fact that I love history. But I took a chance on this story and I don’t regret it. The writing was wonderful and felt authentic in the time period at least to my novice eyes. The story was rich despite its length.

The characters were great. Benjamin trying to find his way in his romantic life. Cavin was just trying to make a way. Somehow these two find each other and it’s not all bells and whistles from there. Things aren’t easy which makes for a great story. I couldn’t help rooting for both of them to succeed.
The story was so well written I was lost in 1822 filled with the textures and smells of the time period. Caught up in the majesty of the romance, wishing I was lucky enough to have love like that.

Anyway, I really enjoyed it. For those m/m romance lovers, give this one a try. I think you will really like it.
